Thomas Adams Cemetery

The OES visited Thomas Adams Cemetery on May 7, 2001. Thomas Adams Cemetery was established in 1850, although a few tombstones dated to 1848-49. Records indicate the cemetery was also called Barbee Cemetery. All of the tombstones here were in good condition. One thing we noticed was there were no readily identifiable graves of veterans within the cemetery. There were two groupings of tombstones in opposing corners of the cemetery grounds. This may indicate these are two separate cemeteries, one being Thomas Adams and the other Barbee, but we could not verify this. We found the grave of Thomas Adams, who died on August 8, 1872. He was 66 years, 10 months and 11 days old when he died. Overall, the cemetery was very well taken care of.
